Gas Station Fire Safety Tips

Since 1980, the quantity of vehicle fires in service stations has rapidly increased, somewhat due to the increase in the number of vehicles in the road, while structure fires and different fires reduced by 10 percent. Beginning in the late 1990s, NFPA and different industries have got separate reports of fires, obviously caused by static electricity, while supporters were pumping gasoline.

Safety tips:

• ·       Switch your vehicle's engine while refueling.
• ·       Keep gas and other fuels out of kid’s sight and reach. Fuel is very dangerous as a fire risk. NEVER enable children to pump or use gas.
• ·       Don't smokes, light matches or use lighters in the time of refueling.
• ·       Pay more attention on what you do. Pumping gas is the exchange of a dangerous substance; don't take part in different activities.
• ·       If you are supposed to use any electronic gadget, for example, phones, PCs or radios while refueling, do follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.
• ·       Use just the refueling hook on the fuel container nozzle, if there is one. Try not to stick the hook using an object to make it open.
• ·       In order to avoid spills, don't over fill your vehicle.
• ·       After finish pumping the fuel, leave the nozzle in the tank opening for some moments for avoiding the drips while you remove it.
• ·       If a fire begins when you are refueling, never remove the nozzle from the vehicle or attempt to stop the flow of gas. Leave the region quickly and call for help.
• ·       While refueling don't get in and out of your vehicle. A static electric charge can create on your body as you slide over the seat, and when you go after the pump, a small spark can light fuel vapor.
• ·       If you must get into the vehicle during refueling, discharge any static electricity by touching metal on the outside of the vehicle, away from the filling point, before removing the nozzle from your vehicle.
• ·       If you should get into the vehicle amid refueling, release any electricity produced via friction by contacting metal outwardly of the vehicle, far from the filling point, before expelling the spout from your vehicle.
• ·       Always use approved portable containers for transporting or keeping stock the fuel. Ensure the container is in a steady position.
• ·       Don’t fill a portable container when it is in or on the vehicle. Put the container on the ground first. Flames caused by static charges have happened when individuals filled portable containers in the trucks, especially those with plastic bed liners. Removing container will certainly keep safe while spill of gasoline.
